                                                    The theme for my project is sneakers 




                                                                          Negative space     

                                                    The rug provides negative space to the sneakers, thus helping to make the                                

                                                    colors look more pronounced.        


                                                                            Lines

                                                         The carpet provides the shot with lines, adding to the composition    

                                                          of the image. The lines on the right going vertically complement the   

                                                         ones on the left going horizontally. 





                                                                            Angle 

                                                              The angle of this shot drastically changes the composition of the         

                                                              photo. The picture is an example of a high-angle shot.

Walter Lippmann formatting fixed

  Throughout the 20th Century, the primary way of receiving news would be through the newspaper. For this reason, journalists carried an immense amount of power influencing American opinion. One of the most influential American journalists of the century was Walter Lippmann, from New York. In 1913, Lippmann became a founding member of The New Republic, a progressive leaning newspaper. Soon after this, Lipmann fought and became a captain in the army during World War I, after his service Lipmann became an advisor to President Woodrow Wilson, advising him on his famous Fourteen Points Speech. Muckraker keystone

Oz Jensen  The term “muckraker” comes from famed progressive, Teddy Roosevelt , who in 1906 said “The men with the muck rakes are often indispensable to the well being of society”, meaning society needed those who raked up the “muck” to have a better society.   Journalism is the only profession directly protected in the bill of rights. This is essential because without a country's population having access to the truth, democracy will vanish. Muckrakers were journalists during the partisan era who wanted reform that exposed corruption from businesses, community leaders and government officials.  The linotype machine , invented in 1883 allowed for much faster printing of papers, which enabled newspapers to print many more copies, much faster than even before.  Since more people would be able to buy newspapers and print books, more people would read it which meant papers' influence skyrocketed.
